![]() ![]() An argument could be made that one wouldn't buy a mac for gaming at all, but if the potential is there you'd like to see it come to fruition right? Hardwire-wise Apple Silicon SoC as a whole bring a very performant GPU as a baseline, which compared to the past used to be intel iGPUs and having users that require a dGPU to upgrade to the larger models, which even then also were often mid-range mobile GPUs. I wonder, will Metal 3 be the one for game developers and gamers? Ports have been there in the past too although at times they weren't as good as their PC counterpart and they'd require effort by the developer or investing in developers such as Feral (bless them) to port their game. Now with Metal 3 and these ports that are native, it remains to be seen how good they'll be in terms of performance and also how much effort it required from the developer. Games that used Vulkan were often only the ones who could get a port and DX11 and especially kind of put a hold to many ports. Given that games could have always been made with metal, but in the past, for developers to consider this they'd have to adjust their render pipeline around the Metal API or make use of translation layers such as MoltenVK, which was only a subset of the Vulkan Spec. ![]()
